The power of the PS3 debate

I don’t know about you, but I for one am tired of always hearing this talk from developers on how this game or that game is squeezing out 100% of the consoles power and ability. Yes for all we know there could be some truth to these statements but I just can’t see it given the fact that they have been saying such things with the likes of Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 let alone all the others we’ve seen.
Now call me silly, or maybe I just rant for no reason whatsoever, but if you claimed that you’ve used 100% of the power the PS3 gives, how could you possibly make a new game better like you claim as well? It all just sounds like a pointless marketing stunt which it actually is, and people go for it all the time. One has to wonder whether these are also laid down to protect themselves if the game ends up being full of bugs on launch or ends up rather disappointingly.
Most of all though, is that it’s just plain false advertising if you will. We all want every single game to be the best of the best, but developers are so over graphics these days that many have forgotten the real fun about gaming… GAMEPLAY. I’ve played many a game in my day that didn’t use 100% of my systems ability but was just downright fun. Don’t get me wrong though, I am a graphics fanboy, but don’t let it alienate from gameplay which is where the real fun starts.
Regardless, yes we all want great games, but this whole thing about claiming which uses it’s resources the most is just getting a bit boring. It was good to hear the first time around, but it’s getting a bit tiresome now and often leaves me wondering when the game leaves a disappointing taste in my mouth.
