Little Big Planet 2… Why the hype?

I fear that too many people appreciate Little big planet more then they should. Call me crazy or that I lack creativity, perhaps it’s true, but I just don’t get the hype of it all. See I was a slave to hype until I realized that the hype games generate lead to all the disappointment you see in half the games out there. Be it Call of Duty, Grand theft auto, GT5, or whatever game you please there are just too many disappointments brought about by hype.
Getting back to the point, I could see why everyone loved Sackboy and what made Little big Planet successful, to a degree. However, I also couldn’t stand the fact that it’s downright criminal for me to have to design stages I’d like to play, or bothering to fetch others’ levels (I’m lazy, sue me). To me it just ends up feeling like the game has no soul, no purpose and no beauty other then it’s graphics to an extent. Sure there are always those gamers out there who are aspiring developers and feel they owe it to the world to prove they can do it, but that’s not what gaming is about is it?
I would say that there is a place for Little big planet type games in the world as it gives people that endless opportunity, but to me, it seems like a very smart bit of marketing. What I’m trying to say is that LBP was suppose to be the game that had infinite possibilities, and if that was true, why would we need a second entry in the genre? Surely it can’t be much better then it’s predecessor given the fact that it is marketed in the same way. I mean, what is the drive to go out and buy another game that is exactly the same? Surely the first one could have been upgraded to keep the game with the times, every game these days is just patched anyways.
Like I said, call me crazy, but to me LBP 2 (to me at least) smells of maximum profitability rather than fun. I was suckered hook, line and sinker into buying it’s predecessor through hype and I never got the idea back then, I still don’t get it now.

Hey now, your touching a sensetive subject here.
For me the winning formula of LBP wasn’t the gameplay, it was creating stuff. And then trying to make it work (with the tools provided). I can assure you NO OTHER GAME has ever given me the same feeling of accomplishment like LBP.
If you are going to buy the game just to play the levels you will most likely be dissapointed. On the other hand if you are interested to work a bit at it (like building a little model), no better feeling.

That’s exactly what I’m trying to say… To me it felt like the first one had no soul because as you say, it’s disappointing without actually doing all the work yourself.
The problem I have is what makes this new one so different? I thought that was what the first one was all about. They had so pay-to-get DLC there and to me it seems it died down a bit, so they did a copy/paste, added a few features, and let the little cash cow roll on.
Sure, I get it, there is a market for this type of game and I don’t fit that market, but if you bought the first because you could build levels infinitely, why is there a need for a sequel?

I am stuck on GT5 with the B-Spec comp thingy and will only really dive into this game from FEB.
From my understanding the major change is more tools added to create your own levels. And instead of platform type levels you can change the world to give you a racing game or even a FPS if you like.
I have to try it out but instead of creating levels this time round, you should be able to create games with your own world rules etc.
Only time will tell
