PS3 Piracy – The negatives of being the good guy

This generation, we as PS3 owners have been fortunate with the hard to crack Sony Playstation 3 security measures built into the system to prevent piracy, but when does protection go too far? PC gamers have been saying this for a long time, the ones who play by the rules are always the ones to suffer through DRM (Digital Rights Management) built into original copies of games designed to make said games, harder to pirate. The fact of the matter is, that the DRM in pc games is cracked as soon as the game is released and leaves a sour taste in the mouths of those who bought original copies as they still live with it as if they were the criminals.
Now however, we can say the same thing with the PS3. Sure some of you might be saying that us legitimate gamers have been ripped off through over protection for a while now when Sony removed the “Other OS” feature on all PS3′s and still didn’t prevent the hack taking over the console. Now Sony go ahead with update after update only delaying what seems to be the inevitable and thus frustrating the ones who actually care to not exploit the system and use it for what it is.
Sure, we all want a piracy free world, and it’s all good and well that Sony did so much to protect the system for such a long period of time that it did, but one has to wonder when it is time to let go and follow other means of punishment that pc game developers and the movie industry hasn’t yet learned and disable certain features like access to PSN for those who exploit the system. It has worked well for Microsoft all these years on the Xbox 360, why wouldn’t it work for the PS3 as well.
Don’t get me wrong, I do not condone hacking of hardware to use it for purposes other then intended, however, I get the strong feeling that we who don’t condone it will have to live with the burden of the over protection of the PS3. All this whilst hackers will always find a way around the system and live a carefree life. It’s still early though, so lets hope Sony don’t end up punishing the good guys.

Well I usually buy my PC game, and after install I download the crack, because having the DVD in the drive the whole time is just stupid, but that is how silly DRM is. Everybody still pirates the game, but me that bought it, have to sit with stupid DRM drivers and what not that just bloats my PC.
