Firmware 3.40 arriving today? Maybe…

Well, it’s been a long standing rumor which came to attention back in March by a Japanese gaming magazine, and later amplified by Reuters, that Firmware version 3.40 would be available on June 10th 2010. Funnily enough, large scale maintenance has began on the PSN which is featured in a previous article to this and is scheduled to last until later this morning. In all likelihood, these rumors are correct then, it would seem.
However, what could this new firmware be, and why would it require so much server maintenance? Well, I for one think that if there is a new firmware release later today, it might just be the accommodation for Sony’s new premium subscriber system which was confirmed a while back, making PSN similar to rivals Microsoft’s Xbox360 Live memberships… However, for now, this still remains a rumor as nothing has been confirmed yet.
