Call of Duty MW2 Stimulus package: Hands on

Well, we’ve been waiting for it for ages it feels since those on the darker side got the new downloadable content for Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, but it’s finally here… Released on Tuesday in the US and on Wednesday basically everywhere else that matters, we’ve all been waiting in high anticipation, which wasn’t helped by the PSN store’s inability to accept our money.
Getting onto the details though once you’ve finally downloaded the pack, which comes in at a hefty R135, you’ll see that the download is not so large and should download quite speedily (for most at least), it weighs in at around 350mb odd, which is basically 2 Firmware downloads these days. Getting onto the important bits though which are, of course, the maps, you notice very quickly that although it’s something new and fun, they kinda dropped the ball.
Yes the revival of the old Modern Warfare maps was a great touch as they’re classics which look a lot more polished than the original, but the new maps still have that slow gaming feel. In plain and simple English, it’s a campers paradise due to many buildings, different levels and many many windows and high covered spots. You might say I’m being stupid, but I said the same in my MW2 review on the online aspects.
Other then those cons, the new maps do take some getting use to, but which new maps don’t? Besides the few problems they have which are mostly gamer related, they are very polished and make for a hard thinking game where you can rush, flank or simply pitch your tent and sleeping bag and light up a fire and camp like nobody’s business. Either way it’s a whole lot of fun and is giving the game a semi revival to say the least, not that it really needed one for most.
What made the maps in Cod4 good, was it’s simplicity… Yes you may say what’s so fun about a few linear maps, or move on with the times and adapt. Problem is, why should we? Otherwise though, it’s a very good investment to make as it adds to the excitement and general value to the game. Sure, you might give it a skip, but don’t expect other players to show you pity when the maps show up on the games because that’s just unfair. Here’s hoping that the next map pack contains much more, with more old maps to boot!
