Surprising to say the least. I doubt anyone could have guessed it as in our previous story we mentioned the high rollers, but never thought of this. My money was actually on Motorstorm 3 but alas, I too was surprised. Many won’t be exactly happy but there are us die hard fans who are and will be. The surprise sequal is… “Socom US Navy SEALs 4″

Secret Game Is SOCOM

Sony have revealed that the secret game we were all waiting to hear about is an all new SOCOM.

The game is being developed by Zipper Interactive, the developers of 256 multiplayer game, MAG. This new SOCOM has been created from the ground up for the PlayStation 3 and we are told that “you’ve never played a SOCOM game like this”.

In South East Asia, a revolutionary army has seized control of a country bordering one of the world’s most vital waterways; threatening to disrupt he global economy.

Your mission is to step into the well-worn boots of the Ops Com, a NATO Operations Commander of an elite, five-man squad. You must venture deep into inhospitable jungles, city streets and crumbling urban ruins to engage an army of rebel fighters and discover their plans. Although you’re vastly outnumbered, you’re armed with the latest weaponry and your men are second to none – but do you possess the stealth, speed and tactical thinking to lead them to victory? Time is not on your side: you have just six days to complete your mission. To emerge victorious, you must lead from the front, maintain control of the situation and fight with sheer intensity.

In addition to the single-player story mode, the game allows you to play in matches for up to 32 players giving you the choice of playing in the guise of more world-famous Special Forces units than ever before and we are also promised that as it’s SOCOM the realism of the experience will be second to none.

One thing is for sure, it should be fantastic. I’m a fan from back in the PS2 days, having played all in the series. I’m really happy they have decided to go back to their roots as the last installment (barring psp installments) was disappointing being online only. However, having said that we can be sure of a few things. It should have a solid single player campaign involving voice comms to AI and a solid arsenal of weapons at your disposal. But also the fact that Socom has a history of great online multiplayer dynamics and coding. And knowing Zipper Interactive will be leading the development, after the great success of MAG, we can expect a solid online experience as well! First screenshots below. Source
