UPDATE PSN is down, PS3 Phats Affected Almost Unplayable, Error 8001050F

Posted on 01. Mar, 2010 by in News, PSN Network

Whoa Sony what the hell is going on? The Internet is going mad with PS3 owners of older pre-Slim model Ps3′s that are not allowing access to the PSN, Trophies and even playing games such as Heavy Rain. The owners are receiving an 8001050F error code. This problem seems to be with the clock of the PS3 and that it randomly sets your date back to the past. Many have suggested that it be a leap year error, strange as this year isn’t really a leap year.

So you if you own a PHAT PS3 then you won’t be able to access the following:

Can’t connect to PSN (“An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network. (8001050F)”)

Can’t load up disks (“Registration of the trophy information could not be completed. The game will quit. (8001050F)”)

Can’t play any downloaded titles (“The copyright protection information is invalid. (80029513)”) For some reason all my downloaded games have no owner, so they don’t work.

System time changed to Dec 31, 1999 (YOU CAN’T EVEN MANUALLY SET IT THAT LOW)

This is currently happening to a LOT of people, and some are concerned their PlayStation 3 entertainment system is now bricked as a result and certain files could also be corrupted.

This is a serious problem, but Sony are aware of it and have tweeted the following: “We’re aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we’re looking into it. Stay tuned for updates.”

Sony has also issued a PS Blog Update and second Tweet stating: “PSN status update: We’re narrowing down the issue and continue to work to restore service to all. Updates as soon as we have them.”

I noticed this last night on my 60gig, while I was playing MAG, I got signed out twice and then when I tried to sign in again it trough out the error. I then went to bed as it was just past midnight, I will have to check it today when I get home. We will keep you up to date as we know what is happening.

Let us know if you have experience this error in the comments below.

UPDATE: According to Sony’s US PlayStation blog, the company has “narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service even as you read this.” However, despite more calls to Sony there’s no indication on the time it’ll take to fix – or indeed what the fix will be. More updates the instant we get them.

I finally got Heavy Rain delivered this morning and got this silly trophy error registration error message. This probably has nothing to do with being online (since my console is not connected most of the time) – my date and time settings were messed up too.

Frustrating when I’d really hoped to get some quality time in with Heavy Rain…I won’t have another chance again until Friday.

I play online with my Slim, but I have a 40GB model with some old save files I want to still copy. Is it possible to copy a save file from a now corrupt Phat to a Slim and get them to work? Or will the Phat stuff up the save data?

My date today read 01/01/2000 … Can’t play download titles, can’t log into PSN. It’s like a crazy Millenium Bug.

My PS3 is essentially a giant paperweight right now on account of a disc-reading problem and now this :(

I don’t think its a ps3 problem at all. Its a PSN problem. Ok sure it affects something specifically on the phats but the problem is in synching online. Be it trophies or a game wanting to dial home.

Also the date change could be related to the setting where ur ps3 updates its time and date online.

Its not a PSN problem because even offline Phats are getting the error. There must be a code bug somewhere, hopefully a firmware update will sort it out

I had this exact problem last week wednesday. 3 of us got kicked off of PSN and our friends never even had us on their friends lists anymore.

Was only for one night… normal service resumed and has been fine since then.

    Touch wood.

INternet connection test – succeeded – Obtaining IP Address – Succeeded – Accessing PlayStation Network – Failed – Epic Fail
Odd thing is my PSP 3000 works fine – so not all PSN is fkd

I hope they get this worked out b4 FF 13

Seems like everything is back to normal…But now what happens in 2012 when it is a leap year and the ps3 thinks it’s not?

    Nooo!

I’ve been kicked off of PSN for several days and most of my trophies did not show up!
I tried unplugging the modem and finally worked! I got my trophies back, but still Oblivion freezes when loading (I wonder if this problem could affect a game which doesn’t get online?)

Well, at least PSN is working now…
