Modern Warfare 2 makes a Billion Dollars!

Can you believe it, Activision has sort of made $1 billion dollars from Modern Warfare 2 to date. This must be a new record for a video game. And $550 million of those dollars was from the first 5 days from across the world. If you have played the game you will understand why it is so popular and it’s multiplayer is just insane, even with all the campers playing it. Infinity Ward and Activision must all have huge smiles on there faces!

“There are only a handful of entertainment properties that have ever reached the $1 billion mark,” Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, beneficiary of some of that one billion dollars you put into this game, said, “which illustrates the power of the Call of Duty franchise and mass appeal of this game.”

So is there an upcoming franchise or game that could beat this? God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5 maybe? Oh and just in case you were wondering what one billion loks like, here it is: 1 000 000 000, wouldn’t it be nice to see that on your payslip?

fm! that’s about 16 million copies sold!!
doubt god of war or gt5 could muster those sales figures… even combined.

Doubt any single-system game is going to get close to that figure … that is over 360, PC and PS3. Even Halo 3 only (“only” like it’s something small) sold 8.1-million.
