Shatter PSN Review

So Shatter was released last night or yesterday on the PSN store, PS3blog broke out the wallet and purchased it straight away. You see we at PS3blog are slight Breakout/Brick Breaker fan, or what ever those old games were called. So did it live up to my hype or did it shatter my expectations?
Actually it exceeded our expectations! We are fans of the Breakout games and when we saw this we were happy but didn’t want to get too hyped about it. As we have been let done before with old school classic remakes. After the 195mb download, and starting up the game we were quite surprised to see a few modes to play, already expanding the old game.

One of Shatter's playing screens
Theres a story mode, a boss battle mode and a bonus mode. Story mode is where all the main shattering happens. Sidhe have really done an excellent job of recreating this game for the PSN. They could’ve just taken the same game and beefed up the graphics, but they went one step further. Adding in a slight story, boss fights, power weapons and a unique suck and blow (wind) technique that changes the gameplay drastically. The game starts to get addictive just after playing the first two levels. I started playing at 12am last night and ended up finishing at 2:30am, I simply could not put the controller down.

Another Playscreen of Shatter
The graphics and amount of action happing on the screen is sure eye candy. Though sometimes it was a little hard to keep my eye on the ball, when there was a lot happening on the screen. But its OK as there were a lot of 1ups to keep you going, which is strange but it somehow levels out the difficulty.
The sound-track has a nice retro techno feel, yet is still very modern and fresh. It gives the game a nice techno space futuristic feel to it and had me bouncing a little in my seat. You can stream it here or purchase it if you wish.
We cannot wait to get home tonight so that we can continue playing and try get our rankings up higher on the leader boards. This game is a must have, for R55, 195mb, and pure arcade action, its a steal. This game will shatter your mind and blow you away with addictiveness. Go on go get it, you won’t be sorry.

The score seems inconsistent with the comment in the last paragraph – what’s wrong with it (to explain the low score)?
