Q&A: Got Questions? Lets Answer Them

Posted on 09. Mar, 2009 by in News

Quinton suggested something interesting on the Feedback Forum “How about adding a Q&A section” to PS3Blog. Well we think that’s a pretty good idea!!

So do you have a Playstation 3 or PS3Blog related question that is continually bugging the hell outta ya? Drop us a comment below and we will try our best to answer it. (PS3Bloggers feel free to jump in and answer any questions if you like)

How do you have your own music in Killzone 2?

  1. While your in Killzone 2 multiplayer just push your “Playstation button” on your control.
  2. You should be now in your PS3 xmb (menu)
  3. Goto your music Icon and select the album/song u want to play in Killzone2. Woohoo it’s playing!
  4. Push your “Playstation button” to go back to your game of Killzone 2.
  5. Happiness your playing Killzone 2 while kicking ass to your favourite trax.

Hi Grimm, Firstly playing copied games is illegal and second you cannot. As for playing your old PS2 games, unless you have a 60gig PS3 you cannot play them.

It’s got nothing to do with a hard drive. Firstly let me add to what Freak said, piracy is bad mmmkay, but other then that let me explain…

A hard drive is a hard drive, irrespective of size, it’s just a storage medium. Backwards compatibility is down to other hardware or software like the emotion engine in the older 20gb models (as well as 80gb 2007 NTSC models). It uses software (emotion engine) and hardware (all 60gb ps3 models) to emulate games on the new system. If you don’t have a 60gb model, a 20gb model (only released in specific countries), or a 2007 US NTSC model, you cannot play ps2 games irrespective of anything you do.

All 40gb, 80gb newer models, 160gb, slim ps3′s do not have the hardware or software capable of running ps2 emulation on a ps3. Even if it did, it would only allow for originals (you can test this if you had a copy of a ps1 game), the ps3 only comes with full ps1 backwards compatibility. Without originals, and the correct model ps3, you have no chance, no need to bother

What budget are you looking at? Would you say it’s for occasional use, or hardcore online gaming?

If you’re from South Africa, the Telkom DO2 package is best value for money… If you’re from another country, google is your friend. Otherwise just check with a couple of ISP’s in your country for a mid-range offering

phone the company that bills you for to telephone service, they will be best placed to advise on your needs. as for costs, it varies from country to country and from service provider to service provider.

or even better, ask the person who’s computer you used to post your comment… i’m sure they’ve gots the interwebnets ;)

Sorry Inzo I haven’t tried it yet. You can try the demo on the PSN and it is getting a meta critic score of 87 so far, so might be worth it. I would recommend Dirt 2, busy playing it now and is great fun.

I want to download a game add-on (IE ultimate alliance juggernaut) from the PSN to my PS3 but I do not have internet access. Can I download it to a computer (work) and then transfer the file onto a USB memory card? Are there any special files I would have to make on the memory card or would I just download the file and then upload it onto my PS3? I have searched the PSN site and found no informtion on this subject. Please help.

Check this link out. You can use the program to download the files onto a computer and then use your computer to install them onto the PS3. It’s kinda complex but I can guarantee it works (I’ve done it myself).

Thank you but I do not have the internet or a computer at home. I was going to use my work computer to download it and then put it onto a USB memory card and then put it onto the PS3. I was wondering if anyone has done that and how it would work.

No you only need the latest system firmware if you plan t play online, or if the game requires it and in that case the firmware will come on the game disk. I know borderlands requires firmware 3.01 which it updated for me.

Yesterday while jamming MW2 my PS3 froze for a second then switched off with 3 beeps and the red light was flashing. I switched it back on and it had a message saying the ps3 was not switched off correctly or whatever. Is this a sign of ylod coming? I read on the net that the 3 beeps and red light means it was overheating, but the fan wasn’t even going full steam. I then played some Uncharted 2 for about 30min and then the fan kicked in big time? Should I be worried? Is there a safe way to clean the dust out, could this be the problem?

Hey Spidersmoke, it could be over heating but it is doing the exact same thing that my 60gig recently did. I was playing AC2 and it just shut off with the red light flashing and 3 beeps. When I turned it on again I got the same error and it lasted long enough for me to get the disc out.

I left it for about 2hours and tried again it came on for about 3minutes and then it shutdown again. I think it is leading towards the YLOD I’m afraid. I took it in to get fixed and now every time I turn my PS3 on I am very worried it will happen again, but I will be getting a slim soon.

Check out this thread as to what happened to me and a few others: http://www.ps3za.co.za/forum/s.....hp?t=40186 also have a look at the local doctor who fixes this at http://www.quickflowit.co.za/ PM me if you have any other questions.

Yesterday I vacuumed the air vents to clean out the dust (as in the Sony manual). I got a fair bit out. I played for a good few hours, both MW2 and Uncharted 2, and the fan didn’t even come on. So it seems to have helped. Still though, every time I play now, I’m worried it will YLOD.

I need some help i have a ps3 and a hard drive that was in another ps3 and when i put it in the ps3 it comes up with this message:
“The system software cannot be run correctly. press the ps button to try to restart the system. ( and i have done this)

if the system cannot be restarted the system partition of the hard disk must be reformated and you must reinstall the system software. Insert media that contains update data of version 2.76 or later andthen press the start and select button at the same time. For information onhow to obtain updated data, refer to the sce web site for you region”

then it says there are no up dates found….does anyone have a clue?

The only way is if you get it to boot up long enough for you to sign in and the deactivate it. I just deactivated mine last night just in case mine YLODS again.

Ahhhh, I kinda fixed the YLOD but it won’t connect to the internet :( Sony needs to set up some sort of system where you just give them the console serial number and they deactivate it

Hey Spider I remember there is a jukebox type thing in the menus that you can play the song, but I might be getting confused with MotorStorm 2. Anyway check here for the full track list http://gamerlimit.com/2009/08/.....oundtrack/

The one band you want to look into is Scars on Broadway who sing They Say. I bought there album.
